Interscope Pathology provides testing for the Human Papillomavirus
high-risk strains. The testing is
performed in our Warner Center laboratory using the Digene DNA
hybrid capture technique. As a specimen source we use the same Cytyc
ThinPrep® vial as is used for routine pap smear testing.
The Human Papillomavirus is a known cause of cervical dysplasia/cancer
and is a very useful adjunct to the practice of gynecology. It can
also be used to triage patients with atypical pap smears to aid in
determining which patients should go on to colposcopy. Our HPV
results are correlated with pap smears and any subsequent biopsies.
The ability to screen abnormal Pap smears for Human Papillomavirus
(HPV), an acknowledged precursor to cervical cancer, provides a
significant diagnostic advantage. We have taken the lead in offering
this procedure as an adjunct to the ThinPrep® Pap Test.
